However, there are many struggles that come with dating in New York City that are rarely discussed outside of close friend groups or frustrated rants on social media. No one can deny that the Big Apple is home to tons of fun date activities and a large population of single people.<\/p>\n

White friends can\u2019t believe it, frankly, and I\u2019m really confused as to why not. It\u2019s probably because they don\u2019t face the same lack of respect for my basic humanness because they\u2019re white! \u201d I didn\u2019t \u2014 their adherence to the racist tenents of society are what has decided who I date. Perhaps she just wanted someone new; this city also instills FOMO , and it\u2019s possible that she had already picked up that habit. Not that I can totally blame her\u2014New York is packed with so many interesting singles that it makes sense to not want to be tied down.<\/p>\n

We are the hustlers, the go-getters, the never-stoppers. Many people end up choosing to focus on their careers, rather than dedicate time to dating or pursuing a relationship. It amazes me that such people could exist twenty miles away from a major academic institution. I also wonder how they survive when their trailers are often not powered or connected to plumbing.<\/p>\n

NYC is too easy to get comfortable with schedules, routines. Know what you want, don\u2019t make excuses for others. Assess if what the person is telling you syncs with their actions.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of times you\u2019ll get rejected while in a relationship \u2014 but those little losses hardly compare to the bigger bummer that is being told you\u2019re not good enough for someone else.
